NLS ReSource may be new, but the idea behind it isn't.

Since 2006, I’ve been finding ways to keep usable laboratory supplies and consumables from going to waste. Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand what happens during lab closures, relocations, cleanouts, and changes in research: perfectly usable resources are often left behind with nowhere to go.

​

Whenever possible, I found new homes for them. But there was always more available than there was time to coordinate. Finding organizations that could use specific supplies, arranging the details, and doing it before those resources became waste wasn’t something that could always happen alongside everything else.

When I founded Navigation Lab Services, the need became even more evident. Working directly in laboratory closures, decommissionings, relocations, and cleanouts gave us an even closer look at just how much usable material can be left behind when a lab changes direction or closes its doors.

The need was always there. What was missing was a program dedicated to it.

​

That’s why NLS ReSource was created.

​

Today, we’re taking something I’ve done on a smaller scale for years and building a dedicated nonprofit around it: recovering usable laboratory supplies and consumables before they’re discarded and connecting them with legitimate labs, researchers, schools, STEM programs, and other organizations that can put them back to work.

Instead of asking, “How do we dispose of this?” we want labs to start asking, “Can this be ReSourced?”
